The Cupcake Show

Sweetheart Bakery, 30x30
The Cupcake Show was held in June 2010 at the Sweetheart Bakery on 8th Ave. between 13th and 14th Streets. Unfortunately, the bakery was forced to close in July 2010 due to the high costs of staying in business and a sluggish economy. It is truly missed by us all.
This is my statement from the show:
I live a few blocks from the bakery and pass by it every day. I always feel welcome here- by the friendly staff and the other patrons. The atmosphere is so relaxed and friendly. It feels very homey. I see my neighbors sitting chatting, enjoying their coffee and eats. It is a world away from the Meat Market District just a block away.
As an artist, I am very taken with the sweets. I love their look, their great variety and the fact that the baker is always coming up with new items, many of which are quite unusual. I especially like the cupcakes. I don’t eat them often because I’m watching my weight. I express my appreciation of them by making cupcake paintings. This exhibit is a valentine to the bakery, the people who work here and my neighbors.
